This call is toll-free. Help with utility billing disputes and termination notices - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) can help to resolve billing disputes with utility companies. Call 1-800-782-1110. For help with a termination notice, call the PUC at 1-800-692-7380. Consumers should first try to resolve problems directly with their utility company before calling the PUC. That's our motto at the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority and we'd like you to know that we can help you recycle too. Jefferson County has 21 drop off recycling sites scattered throughout the county. You can recycle aluminum cans, tin cans, plastic bottles and jugs, glass bottles and jars, newspapers and magazines at these sites. Last year Jefferson County residents recycled over 360 tons at these sites. Let's see if we can beat that in 2006. Does a friend or relative have trouble holding a book or turning pages? Large print books or books on tape may be the answer. The regional Carnegie Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) can help. Most of the library's customers are seniors who are not blind but have low vision. Conditions such as diabetes or macular degeneration are two of the causes. Others who use the library's services have severe arthritis or Parkinson's that make holding a book difficult. Residents of Jefferson County can order books on tape or large print books by phone or online and receive them promptly by mail in special mailing containers. They can be returned to the library postage-free by dropping them off in the nearest mailbox or giving them to your postal carrier. Borrowing books by mail is completely free. Registration for library service can be done by mail. All that's required is a signature by a professional, such as a family doctor, social worker, librarian or optometrist to certify your disability.
